A-1 Agency Insurance was founded in 1909 by Carl Kugland.  Kugland operated the agency until 1957, when Bob Grieves purchased it.  By this time, A-1 had expanded into the real estate business.  In 1962, the agency changed hands again and was owned by Jim Piana, Lee Hayne, and Charlie Smith.
